Cummins Celect Diagnostic (Fault) Codes are generated by Cummins designed on-board Engine Control Modules or ECM's via a network of engine and vehicle mounted electronic sensors. These ECM's are a common feature on all Cummins electronic engines from ISB, ISC, ISM, N14 andISX as well as their "QS" replacements, including QSK, QSX, QSL, QSM, QSB and QSC.
In Diagnostic Mode, a red or yellow diagnostic light mounted on the dash of the vehicle can be made to flash out a three digit "code" that is meaningful to a Cummins specialist technician. These codes can be relayed by the driver in the field as required or can be retrieved by the workshop during subsequent servicing.
To help interpret the Fault Code data in the field, Cummins publishes system Wiring Diagrams that include lists of the codes relative to a particular engine model as well as instructions on how the fault might be addressed.
