There comes a time with all good diesel engines when a major overhaul is required.
Torquepower is well equipped to carry out your out-of-chassis engine overhaul which, as the name suggests, involves taking the complete engine assembly from the vehicle's frame or chassis, and overhauling it before returning the truck or machine to service.
Overhauls of this nature come in a few different formats - the selection of which one is right for you depends to some extent on the time you can afford to have the vehicle out of service.
If time is of the absolute essence, we can usually offer a completely new or exchange engine assembly to drop right back into the vehicle and so keep its downtime to the bare minimum. This is also a viable option when the new engine includes a large number of updates from your old unit as would be the case with older Cummins ISX engines.
For N14 and M11 engines, Cummins have a limited range of engines rebuilt in their Juarez, Mexico remanufacturing plant. These are 1999 certified engines and include full electronics suite and engine harnesses. The ReCon engines are keenly priced and may be an option for you for a faster turn-around.
Other options for you include the use of long blocks or short blocks. These are remanufactured assemblies that are prepared in readiness for a faster engine overhaul turnaround. In the case of the long block assembly, it would include for example, cylinder block, crankshaft, connecting rods, cylinder kits, cylinder head/s, gear cover, oil pan, camshaft and followers - as an assembly. A short block would typically be the same but without a cylinder head/s.
Use of these assemblies will reduce your repair time significantly and do not come at a cost penalty as they are only intended to replace the work that would likely be necessary on your old engine itself.
Time permitting, the best option sometimes turns out to be the overhaul of your own engine. Maybe you can take a family break or holiday for the two to four weeks that the process will take. At the end of the day, you have a known quality in your old unit and you can have confidence that it will serve you well for another engine-lifetime.
Torquepower often has available ready machined engine blocks and crankshafts which it can substitute to reduce the rebuild time. The only cost to you is the cost of reinstatement of your own block and crank to the same standard to be returned to our stock for the next customer's benefit. This work is done while your engine is being assembled with the ready machined components. Torquepower is well equipped in terms of people, equipment and ready stock, to carry out a professional overhaul on almost any Cummins engine.
